Market Research Before You Launch: Five Questions Every Indian Business Should Answer

A new product, a new city or a new price can look promising on paper. Many launches fail because the owner guessed what customers want. Market research replaces the guess with evidence, and it costs far less than a failed launch.

1. Is there real demand where you plan to sell?

Demand in Chennai may be very different from demand in Coimbatore or Hyderabad. A survey in your target district shows how many people would actually buy, how often, and in what quantity.

2. What price will customers pay?

Price testing shows the range where customers say yes. Too low and you lose margin, too high and you lose volume. Testing three or four price points takes days and can protect months of profit.

3. Who are the real competitors?

Customers often compare you with brands you did not expect. Brand recall and perception studies show who is chosen, and why, so you can find the gap you can fill.

4. Does the product fit local needs?

Flavour, pack size, language and even colour can decide success in a state. Testing the concept with a small sample before production is the cheapest way to avoid expensive changes later.

5. Can your break-even work?

Combine survey demand with your costs to find the number of units you need to sell to break even, and the margin of safety if demand falls short. This is the most useful number before you invest.
