ARS Insights, February 2026. Practical research thinking for business owners, in plain language.
1. What the Union Budget said for MSMEs
Reports on the Union Budget 2026 list these MSME measures: public sector enterprises must use the TReDS invoice-discounting platform when buying from MSMEs, Rs 4,000 crore is added to the Self Reliance India Fund for MSME equity, and a new Rs 10,000 crore fund is meant to help build larger, scale-ready SMEs. The Economic Survey figures quoted alongside say MSMEs account for about 35.4% of manufacturing output, 48.6% of exports and 31.1% of GDP.
2. The question behind faster payment
Why it matters: For many small suppliers, late payment hurts more than a lack of orders. TReDS lets a supplier sell its invoice to a financier and get paid early, which only helps if you know how long your buyers actually take to pay.
What to measure: the average days your top five buyers take to pay, the cost of waiting, and your cash gap each month.
3. One question for your business this month
If your biggest buyer paid you 30 days sooner, what would you do with that cash? Write the answer down: it is the value of faster payment.
